II Teaching procedure:

II Teaching procedure: Teacher activities and pedagogical indications Students’ activities Warm up: 10 minutes Teacher raises the cross word, explains the rules and lets students start the game. It is the fish which looks like a star. It is crystal and does not have any skeleton. Pacific is the biggest .in the world. 2. Pre-listening: Teacher asks students to discuss the 2 following questions in groups of five. Do you think whales are fish? Why or Why not? Why do people keep hunting whales? TASK 1: 10 minutes (page 98) Teacher asks students to read through the task 1 and guess the key words. Teacher plays the tape. Teacher asks students to listen for the second time, and try to take notes for the clues. Teacher asks Ss to discuss the answers in pairs. Teacher plays the tape for the 3rd time to find out the clues and give feedback (Teacher should pause the tape when necessary). TASK 2: (10 minutes) Teacher asks students to read 6 questions in the textbook, and predict the answers. Play the tape. Ask Ss to discuss the answers in pairs. Teacher plays the tape once more time to find out the answers and give feedback. FREE PRACTISE (5 minutes) Ask Ss to work in groups of 5 to brainstorm some methods to protect undersea environment. Teacher asks to express their ideas. Students listen to the teacher s’ instructions. Students picks up a number in the cross world and then the questions will be opened. Any student who knows the answer can raise his hand to answer. Some students’ suggested answers: water dolphin starfish jellyfish ocean Students listen to the instructions of the teacher. Discuss in groups Answer the 2 questions ( Some students stand up to express their ideas) Suggested answers: Whales are not fish because they raise young on milk. Because they want to catch whales for food, oil, leather, and other product. Students read through the sentences in task 1, try to underline the key words and predict the answers Students listen to the tape and tick the correct answer. Listen to the tape for the second time to complete or check the answers. The Ss also try to take notes to find out clues for the answers. Students discuss with their friends and give the answers and their clues. Some students’ suggested answers: 1. F 2. T 3. T 4. F 5. T Ss read 6 questions and try to predict the answers. Ss listen to the tape and try to answer the questions. Discuss the answers in pairs. Some suggested answers: The blue whale grows to 30 meters in length and over 200 tons in weight. Because there is a lot of krill –their favorite food in cold water. Cold water in the North and South Atlantic Ocean and the North and the South Pacific are their good feeding grounds. Heavy hunting is the main reason for the decrease in whale They have asked International Whale Commission population.to stop most whaling. If we did not take any measures to protect whales, they will disappear forever. Students discuss in groups. Some Ss will share their ideas in front of the class.
