II) Grammar
1.Modal verb with IF.
Ex: If you eat all your dinner, you can have a chocolate. ( Chỉ sự cho phép, can)
If he doesn’t come soon, he might miss the train ( chỉ khả năng cs thể xảy ra, may , might , could)
You must do your homework if you want to go out. ( chỉ sự bắt buộc) must/ have to 
If you want to loose weight, you should do a lot of exercise. ( dùng để chỉ lời khuyên) should / ought to

2.Reported speech.
	eg:	+ Tom said: “I am feeling ill”
	Tom said (that) he was feeling ill.
1. When we use reported speech, the main verb of the sentence is usually past.
	+ I told her (that) I didn’t have any money.
2. In general, the present form in direct speech changes to the past form.
	eg:	+ “ My parents are very well” - Ba said that his parents were .
	+ “I am going to learn to drive” - He said (that) he was 
	+ “I can’t come to the party” - He said (that) he could not come to 
3. The past simple (did / saw / knew ... ) can usually stay the same in reported speech or you can change it to the past perfect.
	eg: 	+ Tom said “I woke up feeling ill, so I didn’t go to work”.
	+ Tom said (that) he woke up feeling ill, so he didn’t go to work.
	+ Tom said (that) he had woken up . , so he hadn’t gone .
4. If you report st and it is still true, you don’t need to change the verb 
	eg: 	+ Tom said “New York is more lively than Lon don”.
	- Tom said that New York is more lively than Lon Don .
	- An said that she wants to go to New York next year.
5. tell / ask sb to do / not to do st
	eg: 	+ “Stay in bad for a few days ,the doctor said to me”. The doctor told 	me to stay in bed for a few days.
	- “Please don’t tell anybody what happened” Ann said to me.
	- Ann asked me not to tell anybody what (had) happened.
REPORTED SPEECH
Reported speech refers to using a noun clause to report what someone has said. No quotations marks are used. Verb forms also change from direct speech to reported speech as follow.
DIRECT SPEECH
a) She said, “I watch TV every day.”
b) She said, “I am watching TV.”
c) She said, “I have watched TV.”
d) She said, “I watched TV.”
e) She said, “I will watch TV.”
f) She said, “I am going to watch TV.”
g) She said, “I can watch TV.”
h) She said, “I may watch TV.”
i) She said, “I might watch TV.”
j) She said, “I must watch TV.”
k) She said, “I have to watch TV.”
l) She said, “I should watch TV.”
m) She said, “I ought to watch TV.”
n) She said, “Watch TV.”
o) She said, “Do you watch TV?”
REPORTED SPEECH
à She said (that) she watched TV every day.
à She said she was watching TV.
à She said she had watched TV.
à She said she had watched TV.
 (or: She said she watched TV.)
à She said she would watch TV.
à She said she was going to watch TV.
à She said she could watch TV.
à She said she might watch TV.
à She said she might watch TV.
à She said she had to watch TV.
à She said she had to watch TV.
à She said she should watch TV.
à She said she ought to watch TV.
à She told me to watch TV.
à She asked (me) if I watched TV.
Direct speech: 
She said, “Watch TV.”
Reported speech:
She told me to watch TV.
If the reporting verb (e.g said) is in the past, the verb in the noun clause will usually also be in a past form.
In reported speech, an imperative is changed to an infinitive. Tell is used instead of say as the reporting verb.

- Tell : đòi hỏi phải có tân ngữ để chỉ người nghe.
EX: He told me that he was late for class.
I told Mary that I didn’t like milk.
-Đối với động từ SAY , chúng ta không cần đề cập đến người nghe.

- ASK hoặc Wanted to know hoặc WONDERED được dùng đẻ tường thuật lại câu hỏi
