Objectives: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to write a letter inquiry to the institution requesting for more information about the courses and fees. B. Language contents: - Vocabulary: (to) request, detail, express, exactly, edition, (to) look forward to. - Grammar: Remind the forms: + Could you please + V-inf? + (to) look forward to + V-ing C. Techniques: - Crossword puzzle. - Matching. - Comprehension questions - Writing. - Correcting. D. Teaching aids: Textbooks, small boards, posters, CPU and Television E. Procedures: I. Warm up: Crossword puzzle - There are 7 crosswords, each crossword has one question. - It has a key word: - Teacher divides the class into 2 teams: Tom and Jerry. - Two teams one – two – three. If Tom wins (or Jerry wins), Tom (or Jerry) can choose the number which it likes. - In 10 seconds student must answer the question, if they answer right, the teacher gives 10 marks, if they answer wrong another team can answer. - After 4 crosswords if they find a key word, teacher gives them 20 marks. - Which team has more marks, they are winners. - Key word: A LETTER. * T leads to the new lesson by asking some questions: - Have you ever written a letter? - Look at the letter and tell me: How many parts are there in a letter? Act1: Pre - writing: * Pre - teach: - T introduces the new words by the help of situations, examples, picture, translation. - T reads all the newwords, Ss repeat. - Ss read again. * Practise the newwords: Matching. (pairs work) - SS share their result with other pair - T and Ss check. * Set the scence: - T shows the picture about John Robinson and introduces his letter: This is Mr. Robinson, he wants to attend a Vietnamese course, he writes a letter to send to the leader of this school. But his letter is incorrect about the place of part. - Asking SS to order the letter ( individual work) - T checks and corrects. - T asks: How many parts are there in a request letter? (4 parts), What are they? ( They are introduction, request, further information and conclusion) - T asks SS to show where is each part? - T reminds: When you write a letter, you don’t forget about the address and date. Act2: While - writing: * Comprehension questions: - Give Ss 4 parts of a letter of inquiry. a. Introduction. b. Request c. Further information. d. Conclusion. - Ask Ss to answer the questions. ( work individual). - T checks the Ss’s anwers. * Reading: - Asking Ss to read the advertisement in 5. READ again, choose one of the schools they want to attend to improve their English. (Choose the New English Institute) * Writing: - T reminds the forms: - T leads the SS to write: 1. Introduction 2. Request 3. Further information. 4. Conclusion - SS work in group: (6 groups). - After finishing the letter, two goups exchange their letter to correct it. Act3: Post - writing: Correction: - T corrects the letter from Ss I. Newwords: - (to) request: yêu cầu, đòi hỏi. - detail (n): chi tiết. - (to) express: bày tỏ, biểu lộ. - exactly (adv): một cách chính xác - edition (n): ấn bản. - (to) look forward to: trông đợi, mong chờ. Ex: I look forward to receiving your message II. Ordering: III. Comprehension questions: 1. Where did Robinson see the school’s advertisements ? He saw them in Today’s edition of the VietNam News. 2. What language does he want to learn ? He wants to learn VietNamese. 3. What aspect of VietNamese does he want to improve ? He wants to improve reading and writing. 4. What does Robinson want to know ? He wants to know the courses and fees. IV. Writing: 25 Le Duan street, Hai Chau District . DaNang City, VietNam. November 9th, 2012. Dear Sir ! Could you please provide more information about the length of the courses and fees for beginners ? I can supply my record of English study if necessary. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
